The Office Christmas Party Risk Assessment

It’s that time of year again! So dust off your dancing shoes, let your hair down and have some fun at the office Christmas party. But wait – let’s save ourselves from future embarrassment and think for a minute about some of the risks we might face.

It’s Chriiiiiiiiistmas!

And you know what that means – it’s time for the annual office Christmas party.

Of course, as we all know, this is a highly hazardous environment.

Let’s think for a minute about some of the risks we might face and save ourselves from much embarrassment.

  • Alcohol will be flowing
  • Pressure will be off
  • The boss will be there
  • So will the photocopier

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, quite a lot, apparently.

Here’s a sobering statistic – 1 in 10 UK workers have been fired or disciplined* following on from a work Christmas party.

*According to a study of 2,194 people initiated by the team behind the hangover supplement AfterDrink.

The stories from last year were hilarious, but do you really want to be that person who did that thing at the office Christmas party?

You can take some steps to minimise the risks by:

  • Avoiding the macarena
  • Knowing your limits
  • Staying away from office equipment
  • Keeping quiet about work-related disagreements
  • Try not to ask about that promotion during the party
  • Having a good time
  • The office Christmas party might not be the best place to raise a work-related issue, or ask for a pay rise for that matter!
  • And, while you’re not officially at work during the party, remember – you will still need to work with these people next year (or even the next day).
